The road to Mecca

The Road to Mecca, written by the celebrated South African dramatist Athol Fugard, is based on true life and depicts the struggle of reclusive Miss Helen Martins, an eccentric South African artist.

This moving play probes the concerns of old and young, bullying, the tensions between liberal and conservative, the secualr and religious. It is also a play about friendship, loyalty, trust, freedom and the acceptance in society of those who do not quite live up to the accepted norms.
