Since moving to Denmark in 1986 Barry has directed The Lisbon Traviata together with Michael Simpson and two popular productions for The Loyal Shakespeare Company: their award winning Romeo og Julie and Hamlet. In 2004 he wrote, directed and appeared in ‘Swonderful based on the lives of the Gershwin brothers at Den Anden Opera.

At the start of 2008 Barry directed the Reumert award winning play Flammens Muse for Kaleidoskop 2. In 2009 he directed Casanova Undone for That Theatre and later that year directed Reumert nominated H3K – Hvad I Vil based on Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night, which starred Lars Mikkelsen.

In 2010 he directed Hancock’s Last Half Hour and adapted and directed Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol in November starring Tom McEwan and Ian Burns.

In 2011 he directed Oleanna for That Theatre Company, Why Not Theatre Company’s highly acclaimed production of Vita & Virginia at CaféTeatret, ‘Allo ‘Allo for the CTC as well as having written and directed both Jago for Teater O and Cinderella for CTC.

In 2012, amongst other projects, Barry directed Shakespeare Unplugged for That Theatre Company, Desdemona, a play about a handkerchief for Why Not Theatre Company, Old Times, a collaboration between Why Not Theatre Company and That Theatre Company and Calender Girls for Copenhagen Theatre Circle. Barry has also co-directed and appeared in “Remembrance” and “Digging Up Shakespeare” for Why Not Theatre Company.

Barry is also an experienced actor, singer, writer and teacher
